Welcome to The Tall Ships Races Fredrikstad
From 15 to 18 July, Fredrikstad will be filled with tall ships as the city becomes the host port for The Tall Ships Races. Over the course of four days, you can experience a variety of free events throughout the city.
The Tall Ships Races (TSRF) is the world's largest regatta for sailing ships. The event brings the world to Fredrikstad through majestic ships, international crews, and free cultural experiences.
The ships will be moored on both sides of the river, and most of them are open for boarding. Look for signs with opening hours outside each ship. The majority of the ships will arrive in Fredrikstad on Saturday morning, but some will already be in port on Friday evening.
Free and open to everyone
At Isegran, there will be a maritime adventure park for families every day, featuring performances, historical walks, good food and drinks, play, and fun. Here, you can enjoy science shows, design workshops, theater performances, the fire bear Bjørnis, and the little rescue boat Elias.
The full-rigged ship Najaden, which has its permanent spot at Isegran, will be open for boarding with guided tours, refreshments, and activities. In the evening, you can experience guitar and mandolin concerts by Italians Carlo Aonzo and Riccardo del Prete.
In The Old Town, you are invited to a unique musical experience where Trad Session offers a maritime music scene in the garden at Månen kulturhus. There will be outdoor concerts on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, during the day and in the evening. Musicians from Norway, Sweden, Denmark, France, and the UK will perform, all under the direction of Fredrikstad's own Richard Burgess.
At Værste Market, you can visit a market inspired by Camden Market in London. Right next to the ferry terminal at Værste, there will be picnics on the lawn, a large market with sales booths, food trucks, ice cream bars, and entertainment both on the stage and throughout the market.
At Dampskipsbrygga in the city center, the Oslo Vegetarian Festival invites you to a "festival within the festival" with food trucks offering exciting plant-based food, good drinks, and entertainment. Additionally, there will be various food and drink options in Bibliotekparken, Isegran, Værste, and Tollbodbrygga.
The events at The Tall Ships Races Fredrikstad are free and open to everyone.
What's on at the main arena
In the Library Park, right outside the city library, you will find the main arena for The Tall Ships Races Fredrikstad. This is where the biggest concerts take place, and there will be entertainment and activities both during the day and in the evening. The Library Park has pleasant meeting places, stages, market stalls, and dining areas. Additionally, some of the largest and most beautiful ships are located nearby along Tollbodbrygga.
-There will be music that is perfect for sitting on the lawn with family or good friends, enjoying the summer, says Åshild van Nuys, cultural developer in Fredrikstad Municipality.
-In addition, you can attend an interdenominational church service, sing-along sessions, spectacular aerial acrobatics, fantastic dancers, and theater performances. You can also get your hair styled with pirate-inspired designs and face painting, so there will be something for everyone, promises van Nuys.
Among the artists performing on stage are Thomas Dybdahl, Fieh, Beharie, Odd René Andersen & The Close Shaves, Oscar Danielson,Jimmy Smash, and Humle.
Parade of Sails
On Tuesday, 18 July, the ships will sail together along the Norwegian and Scottish coast, heading towards Lerwick. The sail-away starts at 14:00.
If you are at Isegran, Cicignon, or on the ramparts of Gamlebyen, you will have a great view of the ships as they leave the city.
