MOMENTUM 12: Island of Foam version XXVI in Fredrikstad
For the first time, The Tall Ships Races Fredrikstad is collaborating with MOMENTUM 12, the renowned Nordic biennial for contemporary art. On this occasion, we have the opportunity to showcase one of Stephanie Lüning's artworks here in the city: Island of Foam version XXVI.
MOMENTUM 12 is a biennial that presents both international and Nordic contemporary art. It takes place every other year in Moss and runs this year from June 10th to October 8th. Momentum 12: Together as to Gather is the twelfth edition of the biennial, curated by the art collective Tenthaus.
-We are fortunate to have Stephanie Lüning in Norway and Momentum 12. She has exhibited her works in major festivals throughout Europe with her surprising, spectacular, and colorful pieces, which are both living paintings and living sculptures, says Ida Uvaas from the art collective Tenthaus.
About the artist Stephanie Lüning
Stephanie Lüning works with painting, drawing, and sculpture, creating public art interventions. In connection with MOMENTUM 12, she has developed two projects. The first project is exhibited in Moss and during The Tall Ships Races Fredrikstad. It involves a site-specific foam action created from rainwater and collected sewage water from around the exhibition area.
Her public foam actions, performed in cities such as Paris, London, Linz, and Dresden, challenge boundaries, allowing spectators to experience three-dimensional paintings merging together - physically, emotionally, and substantively - capturing a moment of limbo between painting and sculpture.
The second project is a series of collaborative paintings made from ink extracted from plant-based waste, such as beets, onions, and walnuts, collected from the restaurant at Galleri F15, as well as birch and apple tree bark from local farms, which will be exhibited in Moss during the biennial.
Prepare yourself for a visually spectacular experience that will challenge your senses!
The artwork can be experienced on Sunday, 16 July, from 16:30 at the pavilion in Kirkeparken.
